Project insights

Delta Built Environment Consultants (Delta BEC) was appointed by Steve Tshwete Local Municipality to provide professional engineering services for the design of the water and sewer reticulation networks for the Aerorand South residential development in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. The project aimed to support the municipality’s efforts to meet growing housing demand in the region, particularly within the surrounding mining community.

Delta BEC’s scope included the full conceptual planning, detail design, and procurement documentation for the internal water and sewer networks of the proposed township, which consisted of over 600 residential erven, institutional and municipal zones, and public open spaces.

Key design activities included:

  • Hydraulic analysis and modelling for water and sewer flows
  • Determination of optimal pipe sizes, routes, and pressure classes
  • Connection design to existing bulk infrastructure in neighbouring areas
  • Layout planning for valves, hydrants, and erf connections
  • Coordination with existing service data and Surveyor General diagrams

The water network was integrated with existing bulk supply lines, with new metering and control infrastructure introduced to ensure accurate usage monitoring. The sewer network was designed as a gravity system aligned with CTMM standards and connected to existing sewer lines in surrounding extensions.

The project successfully addressed the service infrastructure needs of this major residential expansion.
