Project insights

Delta Built Environment Consultants (Delta BEC) was appointed by the City of Cape Town to provide professional engineering services for the replacement and relocation of the midblock water reticulation network serving 2000 erven in Ruyterwacht. The project addressed several issues, including aged infrastructure, frequent pipe bursts and leaks, and restricted access due to water mains being located within private properties. The new water main pipelines were relocated to the road reserve, with each erf receiving a new water connection and water meter.

Delta BEC’s scope of work included:

  • Civil engineering services across all project stages (inception, concept, design, documentation and procurement, contract administration, and close-out).
  • Wayleave applications and approvals.
  • Level 3 construction monitoring.
  • Acting as the employer’s Occupational Health and Safety agent.

Hydraulic simulation software was used during the design phase to determine the optimum pipe sizes and routing for the new water network. Construction supervision formed a critical component of the project, with Delta BEC conducting regular inspections to ensure all works met the required standards and specifications.
