Project insights

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA), acting on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), has appointed Delta Built Environment Consultants (Delta BEC) to provide quantity surveying services for the development of the state-of-the-art Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market (MIFPM). Through its Properties and Infrastructure division, MEGA focuses on infrastructural growth that boosts regional economic development, engaging public and private institutions to facilitate the successful delivery of this landmark project.

The MIFPM complex encompasses multiple buildings, including the main market structure with administrative facilities, gatehouses, staging areas, a bus rank, ticket offices, pedestrian access points, and various supporting facilities such as waste management, processing, and a food technology centre. While civil works for bulk earthworks, stormwater, and roads have been commissioned separately, Delta BEC’s quantity surveying services focus on the building structures and their directly associated civil components.

Delta BEC is responsible for the detailed quantity surveying tasks required to ensure cost efficiency and transparency in delivering the MIFPM’s infrastructure. By collaborating with MEGA’s project management team, Delta BEC helps ensure the market becomes fully functional and operational, thereby serving as a catalyst for broader socio-economic development in Mpumalanga.
