Project insights

Delta Built Environment Consultants (Delta BEC) was appointed by Prairie Mining Limited to assist with the infrastructure feasibility study for a proposed coal mine in Lublin, Poland. The study formed part of a broader feasibility initiative led by RHDHV and focused on the planning and design of critical infrastructure for both the mining infrastructure area (MIA) and the coal handling and processing plant (CHPP), located on separate sites and connected via a proposed rail link.

Delta BEC’s involvement included the development of a comprehensive infrastructure master plan, layout design, and supporting technical studies. Key services included:

  • Planning of infrastructure layouts to optimise operational flow, safety, and service integration.
  • Conceptual design of buildings, earthworks, and stormwater systems with environmental and climate considerations.
  • Modelling of a full water balance for mining and domestic use, including reuse and stormwater management.
  • Preliminary design of the railway connection between the MIA and CHPP.
  • Design of road networks, bridges, and utility reticulation, including electrical and ICT infrastructure.
  • Development of 3D models for key facilities, as well as cost forecasting for construction, operation, and maintenance.

This feasibility work was underpinned by Polish design standards and mining regulations, with attention given to long-term sustainability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
