Delta Built Environment Consultants (Pty) Ltd (Delta BEC) was appointed by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) to develop an Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP) for the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE). 

The IWMP involved establishing the current state of waste management within the CoE through a process of ground-truthing. As part of the plan’s development, existing gaps in waste management services were identified, along with the specific needs required to address them.

The development of alternatives to fulfil the need of each gap was explored, and a preferred alternative was selected. The preferred alternative was incorporated into an Implementation Plan to be executed within the next five (5) years by the CoE.

The IWMP implementation plan of the IWMP aims to address existing shortcomings in the City’s waste management system, enhance service delivery, and support the smooth functioning of all municipal waste-related operations.
